ADORN

The past hasn't really passed at all.  History is all around us on this planet, and it makes up all that society is today.  The goal of the ADORN project is to bring together great resources about adornment, with a heavy focus on past civilizations and peoples.  By bringing together information from print materials, online websites, and museums, Onetribe hopes to bring the past alive to the people of today.  Adornments are part of who we are, and by researching adornments past, we can experience a deeper connection with those who once lived.

We going to be working on essays that will explore different cultures and topics in more detail.  Also, we will be compiling resources listings for your own personal research.  If you know of reputable print or online materials (magazines, journals, museum websites, video, etc), please let us know!  In addition, if you have written or published articles related to historical adornments, we'd be happy to review those for posting here.

"Mayan flared" is a term that has been thrown around a great deal in recent years, but many people do not realize the historical significance of this style of jewelry. We wish to speak about the origins of this style and offer clarification on what we believe the terminology to accurately suggest.
