These gorgeous and elaborately carved horn pieces are Onetribe's take on the Aztec deity Tonatiuh. It is said that Tonatiuh (pronounced Toe-na-tee-wah) was the sun deity of the Aztec calendar, responsible for the sun moving across the sky from dawn to dusk. It is said that sacrifices (possibly human and otherwise) were done to "feed" and appease the god as he journeyed on his prolific task of being born in the morning, traveling across the sky during the day and eventually suffering death for the night and rebirth the next morning.
Tonatiuh is associated with the eagle, and we have carved this style as a hanging eagle face with an exaggerated open beak and wing feathers hanging gracefully below.
These pieces are thinner in the smaller sizes and become thicker and bulkier in the larger sizes so that they scale up proportionately. The larger sizes are not heavy (horn is quite lightweight) but do have considerable visual mass. 6g pieces measure roughly 2 5/8" in length and 1/2" thickness while 00g pieces measure in the neighborhood of 3" in length and 11/16" thickness.
